Dr. Sherer is a board certified general psychiatrist and addiction psychiatrist with a special interest in mood and anxiety disorders, relationships, ADHD, behavioral addictions, and substance use disorders.

He is licensed in New York and New Jersey. In addition to his private practice where he treats a wide variety of disorders, Dr. Sherer is also the Medical Director of a psychiatric service at Overlook Medical Center in the Atlantic Health System.

He serves as a content expert on technology and addiction for the New Jersey Psychiatric Association. He was nominated to serve on the American Psychiatric Association’s Working Group on Confronting Addiction: Prevention to Recovery.

Dr. Sherer has edited several textbooks and authored several textbook chapters on mental health. He has appeared on national and local news channels speaking on mental health.

Dr. Sherer completed medical school and his psychiatry residency at Rutgers - New Jersey Medical School, where he was chief resident of psychiatry. He completed his addiction psychiatry fellowship at New York University - Grossman School of Medicine / Bellevue. Dr. Sherer pursued training in psychotherapy throughout residency and fellowship.

In line with best practices for therapists, Dr. Sherer himself has been in weekly therapy since his training began, so he understands how important and meaningful a strong treatment relationship can be.
